For those who have named their skill

Github Badges

You earned a named skill — wear it. Drop a Gaia badge in your README; it auto-updates each release with your highest rank, total skills, or a specific named skill.

Why might my badge appear blank in my README?

If your repo isn’t registered yet, the badge stays “validating…” for up to 24h while caches roll. Load the badge URL in a new tab to confirm it’s live — if you see it there, only GitHub’s cache is stale.

The rank system

Every badge panel color maps to a rank. Here is what each rank means — earned through evidence, never declared.

Stars Rank Color Evidence floor What it takes
0★ Unawakened Slate None Generic primitive — catalogued but not yet verified by any implementation.
1★ Awakened Sky blue None Verified as a real, distinct capability. First sighting confirmed.
2★ Named Teal Class C Minimum rank for a Named Skill. A contributor's handle goes on the registry permanently at this threshold.
3★ Evolved Violet Class B Reproducible and stable. The implementation can be demonstrated consistently, with docs and a public repo link required.
4★ Hardened Fuchsia Class B/A Production-ready. Comprehensive tests, active maintenance, and documented reliability in real-world usage.
4★+ ◉ Unique Deep violet Class B/A A separate tier — not a rank step. A Basic Skill that reached elite mastery through depth alone, without ever fusing. Graph-isolated, no fusion path forward. Badge renders in deep violet on a black panel.
5★ Transcendent Amber Class B/A + 10k★ Mastery. Often an Ultimate capstone. Requires a repository with 10,000+ stars and peer-reviewed or battle-tested evidence.
6★ Apex Gold → Cyan Class A + Origin 5★ Fusion The pinnacle of Gaia. Extreme ecosystem impact. Must emerge from a fusion involving at least one Origin 5★ Transcendent skill, with Tier A evidence.

What your badge means

Every badge tells a specific story. Here's what each one signals to anyone who reads your README.

Badge What it signals Who earns it
handle.svg Your identity as a named contributor — @handle in honor red, your top skill in its rank color, star count alongside. The full picture at a glance. Contributors with at least one named skill in the registry.
rank.svg Your highest earned rank (1★ Awakened → 6★ Apex). Color-coded by tier — cyan at 1★, gold at 5–6★. Regenerates on every release so it always reflects your current standing. Anyone with a promoted skill in their tree.
skills.svg Total named skills you hold in the canonical registry. A measure of breadth — how many distinct capabilities you've proven, reviewed, and shipped. Contributors with multiple named skills.
/skill-slug.svg A badge for a specific named skill — same format as handle.svg but pinned to one capability. Use it in the repo where that skill lives. Named contributors showcasing a single skill in context.
Badges are static SVGs regenerated by gaia docs build and served from gaiaskilltree.com. GitHub's camo proxy caches images for ~24 hours, so newly earned ranks may take a day to propagate after a release. Logo: the Gaia diamond seal.
